Let’s Get Cookin’!
When I sought out to create my blog “La Femme A Faim” in 2018 I wanted it to be a way for me to express and showcase my creativity in my two passion which are cooking and drag. I have had a lot of fun creating new recipes and sharing them with you all. But as a multi-faceted queen this food blog has now become an extension of my many talents and not just my sole focus. However, you can still expect some great recipes coming from my kitchen to yours!
While I sometimes like to go overboard in the kitchen there are still some recipes that never fail me. Below I am sharing a collection of my favorite recipes. These recipes are some that never made it onto MASTERCHEF and also include my staples when it comes to hosting a party, serving brunch or just in need of some comfort.

What has been the best thing you’ve gotten out of a date? Maybe dinner, drinks or sex right? Well in my case I got a fail proof French macaron recipe. I may not have gotten the second date after but at least I got something out of it. It took me almost a decade to find the perfect French macaron recipe and thankfully I found it via Tinder. Check it out and tell me what you think!
How do you make lox vegan when you’ve never had it? Well in my case I used carrots! I have never eaten lox in my life but I wanted to try and recreate sometime that I could enjoy on my bagels for brunch. Needless to say this vegan carrot lox turned out to be a good happy experiment!
In my premiere youtube video I have made one of my favorite black bean burger recipes. It has a spicy kick from the chipotle peppers and goes great with just about any topping.
I recently celebrated my big 3-0! Can you believe that? I can't. I am still in disbelief that I just celebrated my 30th birthday. I guess you could say I'm basically an adult now. This milestone birthday got me thinking about all my previous birthdays and celebrations so I wanted to share with you all my cakes and since it would be very difficult to give you an actual slice of cake I am sharing a recipe instead.

Bring summer back this winter with this refreshing red cabbage salad. It is tossed in an Asian inspired tangy sweet and spicy dressing that will make your tastebuds do a happy dance.
Who says the perfect holiday drink has to be eggnog? Not me! Though cafe de olla or Mexican spiced coffee is served year round, I like to enjoy it during the winter when it’s chilly outside and you need someone to warm your soul. This slightly sweetened coffee drink is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner! And best of all I also made an instant version for those days that you are in a hurry.
Perhaps the easiest authentic Mexican flan recipe you’re going to find on the internet! This recipe is so easy you could probably do it blindfolded. With just 3 simple ingredients you’ll be able to make a flan that will satisfy your sweet tooth and let you get back to things that matter the most, like figuring out how many cats you can adopt before it is considered illegal.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or so they say, but bagels don’t just have to be a breakfast food. You can enjoy a bagel as a snack, as lunch, or as dinner! I love bread so when my friend Aaron asked if I wanted to make sourdough bagels I of course was totally down for it. So what better way than to jazz up these delicious bagels than to cover them with an even more delicious spice blend like za’atar! Try out this recipe, I promise it is totally worth the effort.
What is the most you would be willing to pay for hot sauce? Well I definitely splurged a little on this one and used it to create this recipe. Adding truffles to anything can make it fancy so check out this recipe for my truffle macaroni and cheese. One taste and it’ll have you saying goodbye to the little blue box and cheese powder.
Suns out buns out! I had this severe craving for cinnamon buns so in my desperation rather than going to Cinnabon I decided to take the “easy” way out and make them from scratch. It was well worth it because these orange-cinnamon buns turned out delicious and I was able to use the dreaded ingredient that got me kicked off MasterChef again without having PTSD.
Another one of my favorite Mexican salsas. This one is all about some heat paired with the freshness of cilantro making a party in your mouth! It goes great with carne asada, tacos de chorizo or even with some chips.
This very versatile salsa is perfect for just about any dish! I love to put it on my eggs for breakfast, on my tacos, and even as side with some chips. Try it on your favorite protein like steak or chicken and you’ll see why Mexicans put salsa on everything!
The Super Bowl may be over but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a big bowl of guacamole. This authentic guacamole recipe comes straight out of my childhood in Mexico, it is so tasty you will just want to eat the bowl by the spoonful.
Sometimes the simplest thing is the most delicious. When I am in a pinch for time and I need to have dinner on the table a salad is my go to recipe. This simple kale salad is one that will have your family coming back for more!
“Falafel waffle”...it's such a fun phrase to say, it just rolls off the tongue almost like this falafel will roll into your mouth! This easy recipe adds a twist to a delicious Mediterranean classic with the help of a waffle maker! They’re fun to say and fun to eat. I don’t have any kids but if you do I’m sure this could be a fun kid friendly mom approved dinner.
The only fish I’m serving are my fishy looks but that doesn’t mean I can’t come up with creative ways to serve “fish.” I took textured vegetable protein and turned it into this amazing vegan ceviche or as I call it “Soyviche.” It’s super easy to make and will wow just about any meat eater!
I feel like I’ve been posting only soup recipes. I’m pretty much the new found soup queen of Raleigh! In the spirit of Christmas I made a vegan pozole verde. it’s deliciously easy to make and so full of complex flavors. The best part is that you only need a blender and one pot to make! You’ll have one a taste and wonder where this recipe has been your whole life.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well not really because holiday shoppers are the worst and having come the retail world I know the struggle. But on the bright side holiday food is pretty much the best thing ever. When I think about the holidays with my familia I remember having all kinds of good stuff like these delicious tamales that I’ve adapted to make into a vegetarian delicacy.
There’s something about this time of year that reminds me of all those foods that I had growing up. My family is from Michoacán, Mexico. Like any other country there are various regional dishes that probably don’t exists elsewhere and this dish is one that I haven’t found anywhere else. It’s a savory corn soup thickened with masa harina with a hint of sweetness from fresh fennel and star anise. Try a bite and you’ll be transported to my childhood!
You would think that with all the Food Lion canned tomatoes I use they’d be sponsoring but sadly that’s not that the case. I’m just an economical queen and stretch my budget when needed. I used canned tomatoes and a couple of other ingredients you probably already keep at home to make this super easy vegan friendly tomato basil bisque.
I love a good soup that packs a punch. This spicy black bean soup recipe has a kick and packs some bold flavor, it’s almost as good as a big strong man who chokes you a little bit. Uhhhnnn!
The cold autumn air has me wishing for a big bowl of chili to warm me right up. I added some Mexican flair to a vegetarian chili using Morning Star Farms Grillers Crumbs to give it that good meaty hug you expect from chili.
Cornbread was another one of those things from the South that it took me some time to get accustomed to eating. It seemed that everyone but me was obsessed with this gritty mess of "bread." My best friend, Jordan, introduced me to this recipe and I was suddenly a believer, give it a try and you will be too.
Five years ago we brought a furry friend home. He has now been a part of our family since and we love him so much. I love spoiling him so much I bake him a cake every year for his birthday. This doggie cake recipe is so good you’ll have everyone asking for seconds!
I recently took an Ancestry DNA test and tried to draw inspiration from my ancestors’ cuisine. This recipe comes from the research I did into my West African background. I hope you guys enjoy this sweet yet savory, warm and spicy peanut soup!
This dish cost me my shot at winning $250,000 dollars but sadly it was never executed. Gordon Ramsay found it to be unorthodox to use orange zest in a potato mash and I was kicked off the MasterChef competition. I took it upon myself to recreate the infamous duck and orange zested potatoes, so you guys can be the judge and let me know if I did deserve to get the boot or not.
They say “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” but I’ve never been one to follow societal norms. I took my famous Chile Relleno recipe and reinvented it to a “Taco Relleno” I hope you can handle this heat!
Fun Fact: I have two boyfriends. Chase and I have been together for years but a few months ago we started dating Jorge. Who would’ve thought that we could make a 3way relationship work? I was inspired to make this recipe with all the figs Jorge’s mom gave me.
Uchepos are a traditional regional dish of Michoacan, Mexico where my family is from. It is a dish similar to tamales but it packs a lot more flavor because it is made with fresh corn. I recently had a craving for this Mexican sweet corn tamal so I called up my mom and asked her to teach me the ways on how to make these uchepos. We took a stroll down memory lane as we made these delicious fresh sweet corn tamales and I can’t wait for you all to try them!
